How can I open an account? You can open online a personal checking account, savings account, money market account or CD. Visit the applicable amerisbank.com webpage to select your preferred account, enter and verify the requested personal information, and choose your preferred features and funding options. What do I need to open an account online? For faster account opening, please have the following information on hand when you begin your application:

  • Your Social Security number
  • Your current U.S. residential address
  • A form of documentary identification such as driver’s license, state ID or passport
  • Your email address
  • Your account number to make your opening deposit into your new Ameris Bank account

What information do I need to open a joint account? You’ll need the same information that’s needed when opening an individual account (please reference the above list), but you’ll need it for both applicants.  ^ Back to Top

How do I make an initial deposit for an account I am opening online? To make your initial deposit, you can transfer money from your account at another bank, send a check or money order or use the mobile deposit feature within the Ameris Bank Mobile Banking App. For checking, savings and money market accounts, you may also visit an Ameris Bank branch to make an initial deposit.  Depending on the method selected for funding your account, please allow up to 6 business days after the account is successfully opened for funds to transfer and be available in your account. Is my online application secure? We use Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology to ensure your online information is passed to us securely. This technology provides a minimal risk of external violation because it establishes secure sessions with internet sites.  ^ Back to Top

How long will it take to open an account online? Your account may be opened immediately or up to 2 business days after you complete online account opening. We’ll send you an email letting you know if your account is opened and any next steps.  ^ Back to Top

How soon will my account be funded and available for use? Depending on the information you provide during account opening, your account may be open and ready for use immediately or up to 2 business days after you complete online account opening. If you transfer money from another bank account to make your initial deposit, please allow approximately 6 business days for these funds to be available in your account. Once you have access to Online Banking and Mobile Banking, you may utilize Mobile Deposit to deposit funds, up to applicable limits, and you can transfer money from your various Ameris Bank accounts. Deposits made by check may be subject to an up to 7 day hold.  ^ Back to Top

What’s a promotional code? A promotional code is a series of numbers and letters that you may receive from Ameris Bank signifying a special promotion or offer. You may receive a promotional code from a web page ad, email or mailed communication. You can provide this promotional code when opening your account online.  ^ Back to Top

What does “online access to my account” mean? “Online access to my account” means that you can view your account through Online Banking. With Online Banking, you can check account balances and transactions, transfer funds between accounts, and set up Alerts to remind yourself about important activity in your accounts. You can also use Bill Pay to pay all your bills in minutes from one simple site.  ^ Back to Top

How do I get my account opening documents? When opening your account online, you will be presented several account opening documents to review and accept.  ^ Back to Top

Can I save my application and complete it later? Yes, if you need more time, you can save what you’ve already entered for up to 60 days and complete the account opening later. To save what you have already entered, you’ll need to provide some personal information such as your last name, email address and the last 4 digits of your social security number. When you’re ready to complete your online account opening, either follow the link in the email sent to you or access your saved work HERE.  ^ Back to Top

How do I get online access to my account? If you denoted your preference to utilize online banking during your online account opening, you will receive two separate, secure emails within 24 hours, or on the first business day, following the receipt of your account opening confirmation email. These additional emails will contain your online banking user name and temporary password for online banking access. Visit amerisbank.com to access online banking. Within the red account access box, found on the amerisbank.com homepage, enter the User ID then the temporary password provided. You will be prompted to update your password.
