Center for Black Women’s Wellness

A Legacy of Wellness and Trust

Since 1988, the community-based, nonprofit Center for Black Women’s Wellness (CBWW) has worked to improve the health and well-being of women and families in metro Atlanta. For over two decades, CEO Jemea Dorsey has seen firsthand how vital local support is to their longevity.

“When you’re a smaller nonprofit, you rely heavily on good relationships and partnerships in the community,” says Jemea. “We serve around 3,100 individuals annually, and we are always raising funds to serve more. Because we are mindful and appreciative of every dollar that people invest in us, we want to spend our money wisely.”

Bridging the Gap for Greater Impact

In the nonprofit sector, timing is everything. While many organizations rely on reimbursable grants, there is often a significant delay between doing the work and receiving the funds.

Ameris Bank stepped in to ensure that CBWW’s momentum never slows. By extending occasional credits to cover essential operational costs and payroll, Ameris provides a financial safety net that allows the center to focus on its mission rather than its bank balance.

Strategic Growth and Security

The partnership evolved further in 2024 when the center received an unexpected, large donation. To maximize the impact of this windfall, the Ameris team opened an Insured Cash Sweep (ICS) account. This strategy ensured that the funds remained fully protected and compliant with safety standards while remaining immediately accessible for the center’s upcoming community projects.

Clay Cannon, the Ameris banker who works closely with the organization, views this relationship as more than just a professional account management role.

“Working with Jemea and her team is a masterclass in community stewardship.” says Clay. “At Ameris, we see ourselves as a silent partner in their success. Whether it’s navigating the complexities of grant-based cash flow or securing a major gift, our goal is to handle the financial heavy lifting so the Center can continue being a beacon of health in Atlanta.”

Beyond the Numbers

The commitment also extends beyond the teller window. Ameris continues to support the center’s annual signature fundraising event, Wellness & Pearls, celebrating the strength and resilience of the women they serve.

“We have trusted Ameris with our funds, which we take very seriously,” Jemea says. “We appreciate long-standing, meaningful partnerships that are built on trust.”
