Get Ready for Smoother Wire Payments
New address fields are coming soon. Reviewing your wire templates now can help prevent payment delays.
We’re updating Online Wires to improve the accuracy and consistency of wire payment information. Instead of entering a recipient’s full address in a single text field, address details will be entered in separate fields, including street address, city, state or province, postal code, and country.
This enhanced format makes address information easier to enter, review, and validate before submission. For wires sent to certain countries, you may also see a Purpose of Payment field. If required, Online Wires will prompt you to provide this information.
Recipient address details will be captured in clearly labeled, structured fields when creating or updating a wire. Bank address information and wire initiator details will also follow the same format. These enhancements are designed to improve data accuracy, identify missing information before submission, and help reduce avoidable processing delays.
Here’s a quick example of how address information will be separated into structured fields:
For international wires, the same structured approach helps separate address details clearly:
If you use saved wire templates, we recommend reviewing templates associated with future-dated or recurring wire payments first, as they may already be linked to scheduled transactions and could require updates before processing.
October 25 Reminder: By October 25, 2026, prioritize updates to templates associated with scheduled payments, as well as any changes to Import Wire and Bank Address information. Templates linked to future-dated or recurring wires should be reviewed first to help ensure successful processing and avoid potential delays.
If your organization uses Import Wire, updates may also be required. The Import Wire file specifications are being enhanced to align with the new structured address format. Once the updated specifications are available, review them and make any necessary changes to your import files, templates, and internal processes to ensure continued compatibility with the new format.
Use this timeline to plan your updates and prioritize the items that need attention first:
Purpose of Payment is a brief description of the reason a wire transfer is being sent. Some countries require this information to process incoming payments. If a Purpose of Payment is required for your wire, Online Wires will prompt you to provide the necessary details during the payment process.
Purpose of Payment is separate from recipient address information and may be required for both U.S. dollar and foreign currency wire transfers, depending on the destination country and payment requirements.
Getting Ready Checklist:
A little preparation now can help ensure a smooth transition. We encourage you to review your saved wire templates, gather any required information, and make necessary updates before the new requirements take effect to help avoid payment processing delays.
