Fraud Prevention FAQs

Return to Products and Services FAQs

Contact Ameris Bank at 866-616-6020 and file a customer complaint with the FTC. If you believe your personal information has been compromised, immediately contact Ameris Bank.

Every October, Ameris Bank joins the national effort to raise awareness about the importance of online security. It's a dedicated time to learn how to stay safe and protect your digital life from scams and fraud.

We use a multi-layered approach to protect your information, including advanced encryption, secure login protocols, and continuous monitoring for suspicious activity.

Fraud is the unauthorized use of stolen information for financial gain, such as a fraudulent charge on your credit card. Identity theft is when a criminal steals your personal information to assume your identity and open accounts or commit other crimes in your name.

You are your first line of defense! Use strong, unique passwords for every account, enable two-factor authentication whenever possible, keep your software updated to patch security vulnerabilities, and switch to e-statements.

Be mindful of what you share publicly. Fraudsters can use details from your social media profiles to guess security questions or gain your trust in a scam.

You must notify us immediately if you believe your access ID or passcode has been compromised or if an unauthorized transaction has occurred.

You can help protect yourself from online fraud by being careful with your personal and account information. Never provide confidential information in response to unsolicited emails and pop-up webpages. For more information on how to safeguard your computers and personal information, review the online educational consumer protection resources on FDIC’s website at www.FDIC.gov.

We’re aware of online fraudulent activities and have aggressive policies in place to fight online fraud. We are dedicated to preventing online fraud and we work with law enforcement agencies, industry groups, and other financial institutions to help minimize the impact of online fraud. We're also proactively communicating with our employees and our customers about online fraud.

The security of our clients’ accounts and personal information is our highest priority. We are dedicated to preventing online fraud and we work with law enforcement agencies, industry groups, and other financial institutions to help minimize the impact of online fraud. We have strong processes, policies and technologies in place to help us fight these scams. We’re also proactively communicating with our employees and our customers about online fraud.

Many financial institutions and companies that conduct business on the Internet, including Ameris Bank, have become the target of a form of online fraud called “phishing” (sounds like “fishing”). Phishing usually takes the form of unsolicited emails or pop-up webpages. To make phishing look official, scammers often include image and logos from legitimate companies.

We use secure transmission mechanisms to encrypt communications that contain your confidential information. The encryption helps prevent information from being intercepted by third parties. In addition, we use safety measures such as firewalls and passcodes to protect your accounts.

Fraudulent emails can include logos and images from our website. The important thing to remember is that Ameris Bank will never send emails to clients asking to provide, update or verify personal or account information, such as passwords, Social Security Numbers, PINs, credit or debit card numbers, or other confidential information. If you do not initiate the email communication with us, you should not provide any confidential information. You can securely communicate with us by email when you log into Ameris Bank Online Banking.

Identity theft is dangerous because it can remain hidden for a relatively long time before it’s identified. Ameris Bank is committed to protecting your account and identity. You can learn more about identity theft by visiting “Protecting Your Identity” in the Customer Protection and Education section of this site.

If your Ameris Bank debit card is stolen, please call 800-236-2442 immediately. Also, call our Customer Service Team at 866-616-6020 for account and fraud assistance. Once your debit card or account is closed no further activity can take place.

You can also turn off your debit card online or on your mobile app by going to "My Cards" tab and turn off "enable card for use" option.

Call us at 800.236.2442 or our Customer Service Center at 866.616.6020. When calling make sure to note you are an Apple Pay user.

You can deactivate Apple Pay on your device by placing it in Lost Mode on iCloud.com or using the Find My App on another device.  Apple Pay can be restored on the device if it is found. You can also call our Customer Service Center at 866.616.6020 to have your card unlinked from Apple Pay.

While we hope that never happens, it's a good idea to enable the remote location access for your device in advance, in case you need to search for it.

To enable the remote location access, so that you can remotely lock your device or do a factory reset, take these steps:

Sign in to your Google account on your device in order to use the Android™ Device Manager. To turn on the location access from your device's apps menu, open Google Settings and touch Security. Under Android Device Manager, move the switches next to Remotely locate this device and Allow remote lock and factory reset to the On position. You should also review your account transaction history in Online & Mobile Banking. If you notice any suspicious activity, please contact us immediately by calling us at 800.236.2442 or our Customer Service Center at 866.616.6020.

While we hope that doesn't happen, it's a good idea to enable Find My Mobile in your Samsung account in advance, in case you need to search for it.

To enable Find My Mobile, so that you can remotely lock or erase your device, take these steps:

Log in to the Find My Mobile service with your Samsung account. Select the device on which you want to use this feature and check its status. Select the On button next to Remote Controls. Select Locate my device from the menu on the left. You should also review your account transaction history in Online & Mobile Banking. If you notice any suspicious activity, please contact us immediately by calling us at 800.236.2442 or our Customer Service Center at 866.616.6020.
