The coastal city of Charleston, South Carolina is alive with a unique mixture of history, southern charm and a great food scene.

Whether you want to spend a day enjoying the outside near the water, shopping in the quaint downtown arena or touring historic Charleston, the city will not disappoint!

Historic Charleston

If you drive about 25 minutes outside of downtown, you will find Boone Hall Planation & Gardens. As soon as you step out of the car you will feel as if you are taking a step back into history. Boone Hall is one of the oldest working plantations that still grows and sells crops to this day. Middleton Place is another great destination full of rich history. They even have places for you to stay on the property so you can make a weekend of it.

If your looking to stay within walking distance of downtown, there are beautiful historic homes and buildings right in the downtown vicinity. The city even offers carriage tours through Historic Downtown Charleston.

Food

If you’re looking to eat your way through Charleston, you will not be disappointed. From seafood to steak to southern soul food, the city is known for it’s good eats. Make a stop at The Daily for a quick morning coffee and low-key breakfast. For lunch go for a Lowcounty Southern meal at Hominy Grill or go for a lighter lunch at The Park Café. End your day with dinner at The Ordinary, a great seafood spot with killer oysters! If you are looking to try a little of everything check out the city’s tasty food tours where you can indulge in some of the most delicious foods the city has to offer.

If you’ve got a sweet tooth be sure to stop into one of the many bakeries or ice cream shops! You can’t go wrong with Sugar Bakeshop or Kaminsky’s Dessert Café. Sugar’s Bakeshop is off the beaten path a little but once you walk in and smell the sweet scents it’s treats produce you won’t be sorry made the trip!

Shopping

Whether you’re looking for local boutiques or retail stores downtown Charleston has you covered. Charleston’s City Market is a legendary gem filled with local artisans. Take a walk down King Street to find your more traditional stores. There is plenty to keep you going for hours.

Outdoor Activities

If you’re looking for some fun in the sun, there are plenty of options! Spend the afternoon kayaking, paddle boarding or enjoying a boat tour to explore Charleston’s various rivers and islands. Take a nice walk across the Arthur Ravenel Bridge to enjoy some killer view – it’s a must. And don’t forget the beaches – spend a day on the beautiful beaches of Sullivan’s Island, Isle of Palms, or Folly Beach.

If a tee time is what you’re looking for Charleston is home to several premier golf courses including an Ocean Course on Kiawah Island, which played host to the 2012 PGA Championship.
