Tax Prep Tips

Post it note that says tax time

It’s that time of year again, tax season. Many of us dread having to pull together all our tax information for Uncle Sam. Stress less this year by using these tips to simplify your tax preparation.

Make a list.

Utilizing a checklist to make sure you have all the information you need to file your taxes will help you to be prepared when it comes time to file. Make sure you have items such as personal information for you and any spouses or dependents, income documents such as a w-2 and any deductions. Click here for a sample list to help get you started.

Check your work.

It can be very tempting to get to the end of your tax return and want to just hit submit. Before submitting your taxes it is always good practice to double-check your work to ensure accuracy. Any mistakes in your personal information or mistyped numbers can lead to a slower processing time, which means you have to wait longer to get your tax return.

Prepare for next year.

It’s never too early to begin preparing for next year’s taxes. Staying organized throughout the year will help ensure you don’t miss a beat.

Ask for help.

Don’t take the risk of submitting an incorrect tax filing. If you are unsure about a specific section of your taxes consult a tax professional.
