Proud to Support Local Businesses

Thanksgiving. Halloween. Small Business Week. These are a few of my favorite times of the year.

Thanksgiving and Halloween are obvious family favorites, but Small Business Week may seem like a surprising choice. However, when I consider how vital small businesses are to my community and the role they play in my life, I am always excited to celebrate them each May.

National Small Business Week is a recognition event to honor our country’s top entrepreneurs. In many communities, it signals an emphasis on “shopping small.” At Ameris Bank, it creates an opportunity to provide support to local businesses and celebrate our customers and the impact they have on our communities.

Why do small businesses matter now, more than ever?

Small businesses are vital to local economies. According to the Small Business Administration, more than half of Americans work for a small business and small businesses create more than two out of every three new jobs in the United States each year.

Small businesses spur innovation. Local businesses, like any business, need to stand out from the crowd in order to survive. This creates an innovative culture as they strive to be unique and flourish in the marketplace. In fact, small patent seeking companies earn more patents per employee than larger firms.

Small businesses create diverse, locally made products and services. Big-box businesses can feel generic sometimes, but small businesses are able to create one-of-a-kind, locally made products. Not only does this provide variety, but it also attracts customers to a community, bolstering tourism.

At Ameris Bank, we are honored to support our local businesses and look forward to connecting with business owners. Our teams specialize in providing personalized solutions paired with local decision making. And our support extends beyond financial services. We are dedicated to providing resources to business owners, everything from marketing advice to social media tips.

I hope you’ll visit amerisbank.com/LocalBiz this month to check out our resources and see what our business customers are saying about us. I also hope that you’ll join me in supporting local businesses in your community this week, and every week!
