“I have been a teller for 42 years…years ago, a teller’s role was to pay and receive money. Today, we provide a full customer service experience – we are the bank’s first impression. The first person you see and often the last. I love talking to people and making them feel important and appreciated. I love when I have a customer leaves with a smile on their face,” says 45-year banking veteran, Teller Dorothy Walker.
This week kicks off Teller Appreciation Week and we couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate than to showcase longtime, customer-loved, Ameris-appreciated teller, Dorothy Walker from our Tifton, GA (First Street) location.
From Sylvester, GA, Dorothy started her 45-year banking career in Tifton and has worn many hats including bookkeeper, return item clerk, head teller, teller manager and most currently, part-time teller. For Dorothy, knowledge is power and the more you know the better you can assist your customers. She is a firm believer in once you are comfortable in one role and its responsibilities, it’s time to cross train in other roles. Taking on new responsibilities and learning new things not only helps Dorothy serve our customers better, but it allows her to develop and grow in her career.
Dorothy is a wife and mom, and considers her banking team her second family. Dorothy finds so much joy in celebrating together, with her team, important life moments. This includes volunteering her time out in the community – caring for and investing in the people in the communities we serve.
For Dorothy, she takes immense pride in “greeting every customer that walks through the door with a smile and helping them achieve their goal and service their need.” Thank you, Dorothy, and all our wonderful tellers, for your service to our bank and our customers. You are certainly appreciated this week and every week! Happy Teller Appreciation Week!
