Ameris Bank President Lawton E. Bassett, III announces that Austen Carroll has been promoted to chief banking officer. He will be responsible for the oversight of core banking activities throughout the Ameris Bank footprint, including Alabama, Florida, South Carolina and a majority of Georgia.
Carroll will also be responsible for building and strengthening the bank’s initiatives and programs; with three regional presidents, as well as coastal market presidents, reporting directly to him. Carroll has relocated to Jacksonville and will be working in the executive offices in the Ameris Bank Riverplace Tower building.
Carroll most recently served as regional president of Ameris Bank, where he was responsible for oversight of all core banking activities for several South Georgia markets, Panama City, Greater Tallahassee and Alabama markets.
Carroll joined Ameris Bank in 2009 as the market president for the Valdosta market. In 2011, Carroll relocated to Savannah to serve as Ameris Bank market president for the Greater Savannah area. He then transitioned to serve as the market president for the Thomasville and Cairo markets.
Prior to joining Ameris Bank, Carroll worked in various leadership, commercial lending and asset management roles for Darby Bank & Trust and BB&T.
Carroll is a graduate of the Graduate School of Banking at Louisiana State University and received a bachelor’s degree in finance from Valdosta State University. In his free time, Carroll enjoys outdoor activities and spending time with his wife and three daughters.
